Jimmy writes: I also recall that David Sleeter was describing
dry-rammed KN/SU. While dry ramming is standard for BP motors, it is
not the optimal procedure for sugar propellants.
Rummaging through my shop awhile back, I found a film-can of
recrystallized KN/SU that I had made 18 years prior. Miraculously, I
found the notebook where I had recorded that batch. It performed
exactly as the same as it had when freshly made, at least as far as I
could tell by burning strands in open air and making a few model-rocket
sized motors.
Sealed away from air, it keeps quite well. Exposed to moist air, it
turns into goo rather quickly.
