Hi all,

I had a conversation with a friend about charcoal. He
mentioned that he was told that fresh charcoal (less
than 24 hours after cooking) is very
sensitive/reactive to the point it may SPONTANIOUSLY
ignite. Therefore he was recomended that fresh
charcoal be kept closed or at lest in a safe place. He
noted that it was not about being hot but about
chemical sensitivity.

I recall a discussion on pml. Someone (sorry, forgot
the name) told me that charcoal can smolder with no
smoke untill it reaches a point where it really starts
burning with an open, visible, flame.

I, for example, open the retort (I have two - one in
the fire and the other cooling - and vice versa) only
when it has reached room temperature.

I would love to hear more of the subject.
Thanks all,
Flint
