Also i forgot to point out that Tom perigrin does sugest milling the final product on page 32 of his book. He said the burn rate can be brought down to .7 sec per 10 cm of bp by milling the final prduct in a sllghtly dampened state....the cakeing question was ment for this stage. I should realy not post questions before ive had my first cafienated beverage of the day :-)
 
Just thought of another question..tom states green mix burns at 10 sec per 10 cm and precip  bp burns at 1.5 sec...milled precip bp burns at .7 sec...I know a lot of people slow down their BP somewhat when they make rockts. Just haw fast does the mix need to be to make good rockets? would green mix be adiquit? or do i need it faster?

This is why im hesatent to buy more books untill i have tried the methods in the books i have. It seems a very debated topic as to the best way to make BP.
My goal is the simpelest and safest method to make BP thats adiquit for typical pyro devices.
 
Also do you think dexitrin for harder grains is at all nessary if i only plan on useing the BP for rockets at this time?

Point of clarification:  Peregrin's book does NOT describe milling.  He uses the precipitation method instead.  Big difference in procedure.  I've used his method for most of the comp I've prepared, so I'm not an authority on milling.

   I've milled several hundred lbs, both for rocketry and BP firearms in my day. For media I purchased 3/4 round brass rod, cut em 3/4" long, and chamfered the edges. Using a 20 lb mill, I put 4 lbs of brass "pellets" into the drum with 12 lbs of chemicals, and mill for 6 hours, using a 2.5 sulfur content.
